Andrea Greco

Aerospace Engineering Student at Politecnico di Milano

About Me

Hi! My name is Andrea Greco, I’m currently a student for the Bachelor’s in Aerospace Engineering at Politecnico di Milano. Other than being a full-time student, I’m part of the awesome team of moderators over at FibraClick, the reference forum for italian telecommunications, and the developer of an annoyingly complicated iOS Shortcut called ShorteNB.

As it’s probably easily comprehensible from what I do daily, my main passions are the aeronautical industry and learning how fixed and mobile telecommunications work. In my free time I love getting my hands (and brain) dirty with anything that is tech-related, mainly self hosting, networking, computers and phones in general.

My Projects and Reports

ShorteNB, an annoyingly complicated iOS Shortcut

Shortened link

Easily decode data out of the CellID found in Apple's FTMInternal-4 (Italian MNOs only)

Provided with the CellID as input from the clipboard, the shortcut decodes data out of it showing it in an alert together with extra data gathered from LTE Italy’s APIs. It also makes it easy to open LTE Italy’s map or the BTS’s info page and saves geotagged data to a note, .txt or JSON file to be uploaded on iCloud Drive.

To create this Shortcut I had to learn visual programming with Shortcuts and some of the basics of JavaScript.

A wiki on the correct use of Apple's FieldTest Mode, aka FTMInternal-4

In this wiki I try to explain how to correctly use Apple's FieldTest Mode to interpret radio conditions.

In this wiki I explain the meaning and usefulness of the data present in iOS' FieldTest Mode, aka FTMInternal-4, to make it easier for users to understand how to correctly read and report radio conditions.

To do this I had to analyse and understand how the data showed in Apple's FTMInternal-4 varies according to known radio conditions. Having done that for the past two years, I've gotten to know FieldTest Mode quite deeply, so I decided to make my knowledge available to all users who might be interested.

Analysis of the Rutherford engine and comparison between different pressurization methods

This group project was part of the Aerospace Propulsion exam. Written during the Academic Year 2021/2022, the report was marked 30/30 Cum Laude and published by the Professor as one of the best reports of the year.

The project consisted in writing a report about the analysis and calculation of a chosen engine’s parameters. We chose to analyse the Rutherford engine used by Rocket Labs in their Electron Launcher.

After calculating all necessary engine parameters with the use of MATLAB and NASA’s CEAM (Chemical Equilibrium Analysis for MATLAB), a comparison between different propellant pressurization methods was made, to better understand what pushed Rocket Labs to choose a battery-powered system.

Analysis of different transfer strategies between two orbits

This group project was part of the Introduction to Space Mission Analysis exam. Written during the Academic Year 2021/2022, the report was marked 26/30.

This project consisted in writing a report about comparing different spacecraft transfer strategies between two given sets of coordinates on different orbits.

The required data was calculated using different functions implemented in the MATLAB environment.

Retrospective Analysis of British Midland Airways flight 92

This group project was port of the Air Transport Safety exam. Written during the Academic Year 2020/2021, the report was marked 29/30.

The project consisted in a retrospective analysis of British Midland flight 92 using different methodologies, including ADREP, HFACS, ARMS-ERC, ARMS-SIRA, ISAAC, CREAM and COCOM.

In particular I contributed in writing and correcting the final report in LaTeX and analysing the accident with CREAM and HFACS.

Who killed Alitalia? A long history of failures

An article I wrote way back in 2017 about what I thought were the main factors in the multiple failures of Alitalia.

An analysis I wrote about the long history of Alitalia’s problems, finding the probable causes of those problems and proposing what I think could have been and could be solutions to this long history of failures.

My Experiences

FibraClick

Moderator

October 2021 -

I’ve been part of the awesome team of moderators of the FibraClick forum, the reference forum about telecommunications in Italy.

This has helped me gain a much better insight into the italian telecommunications industry, in both fixed and mobile markets, and also helped with expanding my technical knowledge of the field.

Studio Professionale Ing. Fabio De Masi

Intern

2016 - 2018

This was a work experience that I had through the “Alternanza Scuola-Lavoro” program the Italian school system has in the last two years of High School.

During these 200 hours of work experience, I mostly did work using CAD and BIM software, translating paper floor plans in a digital form to use in reports about buildings’ and bars’ acoustic properties. I also learned how to use a phonometer and gained a now-expired certification for the use of thermal cameras.

Exchange program in Gulpen, The Netherlands

April 2018

In my fourth high school year I was selected as one of the few students that got to go in the Netherlands for an exchange program with the Sophianum High School in Gulpen.

Thanks to this exchange program I learned a lot about how the dutch school system works and how different and more practice-oriented it is than the italian one. We also made some experiments with the use of a wind tunnel and liquid hydrogen.

My Education

Politecnico di Milano

Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace Engineering

2019 - Current

Politecnico e' responsabilita', rispetto, integrita', professionalita', equita', fiducia, trasparenza.

I’m currently still studying for my Bachelor’s Degree in Aerospace Engineeringg, part of the L-9 - Industrial Engineering Class of Degree, at the top Italian University for Engineering.

During these three years I’ve also completed some of the reports that were presented in the section before this one.

Liceo Scientifico Cosimo De Giorgi

High School Diploma, 100/100 Cum Laude

2014 - 2019

Non e' scientifico, e' De Giorgi

I have obtained my High School Diploma from the Liceo Scientifico Cosimo De Giorgi, the top scientific high school in Lecce with the grade of 100/100 Cum Laude.

During my high school studies, I was also class representative for two years, an experience which made me understand how to better deal with both my classmates and my superiors.

In my fourth year, I was also selected for a 2-week exchange program in the Netherlands, at the Sophianum High School in Gulpen.
